What are the deadlines to apply?
Spring semester housing is being offered on a first come first serve basis. Your application will not be considered until you apply on-line and pay the $300 reservation fee.

Could there be a Waitlist?
A waitlist will be generated, if the demand for housing exceeds the space we have available. Your order on the waitlist will be based on the date you submit your housing application and pay your $300 reservation fee. Housing will communicate with you via email regarding your application status.

How will I know the status of my housing application?
Housing will communicate with you via your UC Merced email throughout the process. You need to check this email on a regular basis. When completing the application, make sure your email addresses, both personal and UC Merced, are accurate.

How do I cancel my contract?
Once you accept the terms of the housing contract on-line (Application Status: “Applied”), you will need to submit a written request to formally cancel your contract. Do not assume you can just cancel it on-line. Get the proper form here.

Where will I live?
Each residence hall has been designated to accommodate a specific population based on your student status (first-year, continuing, and transfer student) or theme program. Our goal is to house students with similar developmental needs together, which allows us to offer specialized programs and activities.

First-year freshmen will be assigned to the Sierra Terraces and a few designated halls in the Valley Terraces. Continuing and transfer students will live together in the Valley Terraces. When you sign up for a specific room, your classification will allow you to see only those rooms set aside for your classification.

What is a Theme Hall?
There are three (3) Theme Learning Communities available: Academic Excellence, Green Theme and RMP. The Residential Management Program, available to all resident Management and Economics majors and minors. First-year students interested in The Residential Management Program please email us at housing@ucmerced.edu. Students who sign up to live in theme communities must meet the requirements and are expected to be actively involved in the program. If you do not qualify, you may be reassigned to another room.

Can I pick my Roommate? Suitemates? Room?
Because space is limited, you will not be able to select your roommate, suitemate, or a specific room.

Tips to Navigate the on-line application
The menu items are on the left. All actions must be performed by scrolling down on the right side and using the commands at the bottom of the page on the right.

The “Cancel” command allows you to re-set your application so you can start again. For example if change your mind or made a mistake, you can cancel your application and start again. Remember clicking on the cancel menu on the left only takes you to the cancel menu. You need to scroll to the bottom of the page on the right and click the “Cancel Application” command.

Once you submit your application “Application Status: Applied” you MUST cancel your contract in writing with housing. Do not only cancel it on-line. See the Contract Cancellation section.
