International House LLC

International House LLC

Available to: First-year students interested in international and intercultural issues and global cultures.

Located in: El Portal

UC Merced is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse campuses in the University of California system. The International House Living Learning Community (LLC) builds on this diversity by creating a space where students can explore global issues, intercultural dialogue, and international engagement.

International House brings together students interested in understanding the world beyond national borders and developing the skills needed to participate in an increasingly interconnected global society. Through conversations, cultural programming, film screenings, guest speakers, and campus events, students engage with topics such as migration, language, social justice, climate change, and global political and cultural developments.

The community encourages students to reflect on their own cultural experiences while learning from the perspectives of others. Members of the International House LLC are expected to be active participants who demonstrate curiosity, openness, and a commitment to building a respectful and globally minded community.

Students participating in the LLC enroll in a 4-unit SPARK course taught in the evening (Monday or Wednesday) that introduces key themes related to global citizenship and contemporary international issues.

International House LLC is open to first-year students interested in international issues who wish to engage thoughtfully with the global challenges of our time.
